What is Go?

"Go is a fascinating board game that originated in China more than 4,000 years ago. Also known as Baduk, Wei ch'i, Weiqi, and Igo, it is played today by millions of people, including thousands in the United States.  In Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan, it is far more popular than chess is in the West, and professional players compete for large cash prizes. Its popularity in this country continues to grow." - The American Go Association (AGA) www.usgo.org

Much easier to learn than chess, but harder to master.  Superb brain-training.

A game can be played in only 5-10 minutes on a small 9x9 board, or last over an hour on a regular 19 x 19 size board.

It can be played online 24-7 with people all over the world, or against a virtual opponent on a smartphone or tablet.

For absolute beginners, a good way to learn Go is to download and read Karl Baker's "The Way To Go", a free PDF file from the AGA web site.
There are many good books available for beginners, but the best way to learn is to come to our club and get free personal instruction.
